How to keep your HankyBook spiffy clean
We see that your hunt for the best and most convenient reusable tissue alternative has led you to the HankyBook. Here are some basic best care practices for taking care of your HankyBook. Now you can get as much out of it as we do and help it last a long time.
HankyBooks do not require any special care. You just throw them in the wash with your laundry and on to the dryer (or handwash and air-dry – however you like) just like you would with any piece of clothing. No special tricks needed but if you want to keep your HankyBook in truly tip-top shape then here are three main Care Tips for a long-lasting HankyBook.
Tip #1 – Air it out
Help your HankyBook dry quickly, not get compacted, and stay tidy by shaking it out. To do this after each use, hold it by the sewn edge and snap your wrist a few times to align the pages.
Tip #2 – Pull pages apart before washing
For the best cleaning results, take a second or two to pull the pages apart just before washing – whatever works to keep the HankyBook pages from sticking together. If you’re more of a sloppy and forgetful owner, like me, don’t worry. The wash will take care of most of this “naturally” during the cycle.
Tip #3 – Wash it regularly
It is a good idea to wash your HankyBooks regularly. When they’re used and then left out for a long period of time, dirt tends to settle in. You don’t want that. Just keep it simple. If you don’t use your HankyBook that much, throw it in your laundry whenever your laundry cycle would call for you to wash your clothes anyway – it’ll keep it nice and clean, and the fabric actually gets softer as you wash it. If you do use it a lot – well, simple enough, wash it frequently (but try to wash it with full loads of laundry to conserve water and energy).

What is a handkerchief? Take it away, Collins English Dictionary: A handkerchief is a small square piece of fabric which you use for blowing your nose. Okay, well that wasn’t particularly helpful, was it? Here’s how I’d define a handkerchief: The handkerchief is (typically) a square piece of hemmed cloth that is primarily used for personal hygiene, as a clothing accessory,…
People with runny noses know how many disposable tissues (and sleeves!) they go through. It’s even worse for people like me who suffer from a chronic runny nose. I’m a big believer in the fact that the humble handkerchief is a much more sustainable alternative to facial tissues. Handkerchiefs are fun, fashionable, functional, and above…
How many facial tissues have you used this year? The answer will vary depending on whether you have allergies, the season of the year, or other factors. But the answer is probably “A LOT” and the box of disposable facial tissues in your home right now is evidence of it. It wasn’t always like this.…
Being sick blows. And we mean that quite literally. Not only is the constant sniffling a pain, but all the wiping and blowing can lead to your already delicate nose being rubbed raw. Ugh. At least we have the softness and absorbency of organic cotton handkerchiefs to see us through these troubling times! Hankies? You…
If you’ve been wondering how to fold a handkerchief for an oh-so-elegant suit pocket look, you’ve come to the right place. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to try out a fancy handkerchief fold. Or maybe you tried, and the result was something that looks more like you’ve stuffed a sock in your suit pocket. Or maybe…
Have you been wondering what a good tissue paper substitute would be? The single-use sanitary product may be mainstream, but it’s also not particularly great for the environment. Nor is it necessarily more hygienic than a handkerchief. Handkerchiefs are a great solution. But there’s a new kind of handkerchief that improves and modernizes the trusted…
